Two and a half years ago we dumped our traditional American life in search of new things to see and learn and eat.
Round one took us to Costa Rica and where we learned a slower pace of life (Cause nothing moves fast in the Guanecaste heat), a new language (sort of, I took Spanish in high school, so I could say "Donde esta la biblioteca" and after two years I can say "Lo siento, no hablo espanol), and saw monkeys and sloths and where chocolate comes from.
The season of Costa Rica is drawing to a close, after all it was never our actual destination. We had been aiming for France. Which is how we ended up where I am sitting now, Turin, Italy where I use my bad Spanish to have crazy, disjointed conversations with Italians.
Here's something people say a lot when you move, "Is this where you'll stay forever?"
I have no idea what forever looks like. In all of my over five decades on earth I've never lived anywhere more than six years, and that only happened twice. Same is true for Don.
"I don't know about forever," I say, "but we are here for now."
We bought an apartment Turin, (Torino, in Italian, I like this version better, it sounds pretty). It needs a lot of work and right now I'm excited about that. Italy won't let us just set up a home here without jumping through hoops to get a Visa of some sort so for the next year we'll be six months here and six months elsewhere in the world.
Where? Don't know. Why? Don't need to. Not yet. We have the next few months mapped out and that's good enough.
This idea of not knowing bothers other people, not all of them, but a lot of them.
"I just can't imagine it," they say.
"You don't have to," I say, "I'll do it and you can read about it. Then if you find you want to try I can help."
That's why I'm doing this, this blog thingy. Maybe you think we're crazy and want to see what happens, maybe your adventure-curious and want to watch what we do, or maybe you're seriously itching to get out and explore.
You're all welcome to come along, Dear Readers.
Let's Get Lost, it'll be fun!
